What are Flathead Cherries?
Well... there really is no such thing as a "Flathead Cherry" any more than there is a "Washington Cherry." It's just the area in which the cherry is grown. Flathead cherries come from Northwestern Montana and are grown in abundance around Flathead Lake. The variety of cherry we sell depends on the season: Vann cherries early, Lambert cherries through the bulk of the season (we love this flavor best!!) and Lapins late in the season. Rainier, Royal Ann, Sweetheart, Deacon, Bing, and many other varieties of cherries are grown in the area also.
Our sweet cherries come from just north of Yellow Bay - an area south of Bigfork on the east side of Flathead Lake. Flathead Lake is huge and provides mild winters and warm summers - just the right mix to produce a suberbly sweet "Flathead Cherry".
